Objectives

IAMANEH Switzerland works to improve the physical, mental and social well-being of women and children living in war or poverty stricken countries.

At annual meetings with partners, topical issues are discussed and networks established.

Since the organisation’s very beginning, the reduction of infant and maternal mortality rates has been the central pillar of IAMANEH’s activities. Many women still do not have access to primary medical care and around seven million new-born babies still die each year for reasons which include the lack of appropriate natal and post-natal care.

Our primary objectives are : To prevent illness and to promote good health through the use of preventative methods: nutritional information, promotion and support of breast-feeding, education about sexually transmitted diseases (including AIDS/HIV) and other damaging practices such as female circumcision.

To improve access to primary medical care.

To make improvements to family planning counselling services, guaranteeing their neutrality and availability to young people.

To offer women a safe pregnancy and birthing experience, and to improve post-natal assistance for the mother and new-born infant.

To train medical and paramedical personnel including mid-wives and health promoters. And to provide further skill development training.

To support efforts to preserve or re-establish women’s physical and moral integrity.
