New mobile app for parents-to-be in Togo

Together with the organisation AFAD from Togo, IAMANEH Switzerland has launched an app that provides valuable information about pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period in text, images and sound.

The "Our baby and us" app was developed for expectant parents in Togo. The mobile application combines text, images, animations and audio messages in several languages, including French and the local Ewé language, to provide advice and guidance to promote the health of the mother and the unborn child.

The initiative, specially adapted for Togo and developed locally, has its roots in the original "My baby and me" app developed by the renowned organisation "Enfants du Monde" in collaboration with the University Hospitals of Geneva and the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso.

The project has been carefully adapted to meet the unique needs of pregnant women in Togo by taking into account local realities and integrating new language versions. IAMANEH Switzerland accompanied the process together with the partner organisation AFAD in Togo.

Free of charge and also for expectant fathers

What particularly characterises the app is the inclusion of men in the process of pregnancy, birth and parenthood. By recognising the crucial role that male partners play in this phase of life, "Our baby and us" also offers an inclusive perspective and highlights the importance of men in the process.

Making the app easily accessible is an important concern of the project. The app is available free of charge in the Play Store and is also distributed by healthcare providers in the health centres of the health districts in the Togo region, where the partner organisation AFAD is present. A particularly innovative feature is the ability to use the app without an internet connection once it has been downloaded. This means that women in remote areas can download the app during their visits to the health centre and then access important information at home, even if they do not have internet access.

Another key aspect of the project is the commitment to user privacy. The app does not collect any personal data and thus guarantees the protection of privacy.

Further development is part of the project

The commitment does not end with the launch. The project aims to continuously develop the app by collecting feedback and suggestions from users. A survey can be used to measure the spread of the app, assess user satisfaction and make improvements.

"Our baby and us" aims to offer pregnant women and their partners valuable support on their journey to parenthood. It is based on a commitment to maternal and child health, inclusion and accessibility.
